The FAO Emergency and Rehabilitation Coordination Unit, (ERCU) was established in 2003, following the devastating 2002/2003 drought. Since then, drought has occurred nearly after every three years. In the 2010/11 agricultural season, excessive rainfall destroyed the bulk of the season's crop. A recurring pattern of severe food insecurity has emerged, resulting in a chronic humanitarian crisis. The ERCU programme is currently focusing on providing support to households affected by drought and floods, strengthening capacity for local seed production and providing livestock and emergency veterinary support. The Lesotho ERCU team consists of the Emergency & Rehabilitation Coordinator, the Agriculture /HIV-AIDS Officer, the Agriculture Officer, the M&E Officer and three Administrative Officers.
